NZICA / ICAA to become CAANZ

The Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) is the current membership body that governs Chartered Accountants in Australia.

The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) is the current membership body that governs Chartered Accountants in New Zealand.

In October 2013, a multinational vote was passed by members to agglomerate the two institutes fully.  This process is underway with a reform bill before government to enable the legal creation of Chartered Accountants ANZ. Once formally constituted, the new institute will represent the interests of over 90,000 members. The two institutes are currently running a Joint Chartered Accountants Program, training new Chartered Accountants for both countries on the same platform. For you as clients this evolution will mean your Chartered Accountants are better positioned to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.

The label Chartered Accountant will be retained, and this is still the key thing to look for in ensuring the person providing you with tax and related advice is qualified and committed to on-going training.
