In 2012 chartered accountant Hamish Morrow returned to Marlborough with wife Emma and a slew of work and travel experience under his belt.

A former Marlborough Boys’ College student, Hamish was born and raised in Marlborough, but moved away to study at Otago University and pursue work opportunities in Christchurch, Auckland and London.

Hamish and Emma, who is also a chartered accountant, met through work in New Zealand, and like all flying Kiwis bumped into each other in a pub in London.

The rest, as Hamish says, is history.

“We always knew we would move back to New Zealand eventually,” he says.

“Living in London was an exciting and challenging time and we embraced the travel

opportunities while we were there.

“But living and working overseas gave us great perspective as to how privileged we are to live in Marlborough.”

Emma and Hamish both have family in Marlborough and Nelson, so when an opportunity arose for Hamish to join Blenheim-based accounting firm Winstanley Kerridge as a director, it was an easy decision to move home, he says.

“Living in Blenheim gives us a much better balance between life and work, this was

especially important to us when it came to raising a family.

“Rather than spending two hours a day commuting to and from work, I can nip home for lunch to see the family.”

After years of travel and work abroad, Hamish has been inspired by Marlborough’s active lifestyle and its progressive community, and is keen to utilise his skills and experience for positive change.

“Just because you live in small town doesn’t mean you can’t be a world leader,” he says.

“Take Winstanley Kerridge for example, we’ve placed ourselves at the forefront of cloud accountancy through our partnership with Xero and more recently in the agri space with our partnership with Xero’s add-on solution for innovative farm financial management, Figured on Farm.”
